Mayoral candidates commit to addressing older Londoners’ priorities

On 28 March 2008, in front of an audience of 150 older Londoners, leading mayoral candidates; Sian Berry, Boris Johnson, Ken Livingstone and Brian Paddick pledged their commitment to addressing issues affecting the lives of older Londoners.

At the event the candidates pledged their commitment to addressing many of the actions proposed by “In our day…” the first older people’s manifesto to be produced jointly by Age Concern London, Help the Aged and Greater London Forum for Older People. It is also supported by Counsel and Care. The Manifesto calls for action to address 10 key issues raised by older Londoners in a survey and through consultation and interviews.

If you are over 50 and living in London then you are eligible to receive a free computer as part of the 'Computers For Older People Project'. The London Mayor Ken Livingstone and not for profit computer recycling company Maxitech have joined forces with Age Concern London in an initiative that aims to open up the online world to London’s older citizens. Due to high demand registrations for free computers have been temporarily suspended whilst we source more donated computers. We hope to re-commense taking registrations again in September 2008.
